Barbara Laszuk is a Canberra artist and painter, residing in Canberra, Australia, where she operates her own art studio. Her artistic practice primarily focuses on contemporary figurative painting, delving into themes of emotional depth, identity, and the quiet strength that emerges from vulnerability.
As a prominent painter, Barbara is known for her interpretations of iconic Australian themes. She often draws inspiration from the breathtaking landscapes of Australia, including the vibrant colors of the inner Australian desert and the outer regions of Western Australia and the Northern Territory, commonly referred to by Indigenous Australians as Red Earth.
A largely self-taught artist, she was born to creative parents, with her father being instrumental in teaching her the basics of drawing. Barbara began her formal art education through lessons with esteemed European painters Frank Le Compte and John van Holten, along with workshops led by Melbourne pastel artist Ming Bellamy Mackay and others. Throughout her artistic career, she has experimented with various mediums.
Furthermore, she has received recognition in the form of an award selected by prominent figure Harold Abbott, head of the National Art School in Sydney. Barbara has also been a finalist in numerous prestigious events, including the Albury Art Prize, Grafton Drawing Awards, and Windsor and Newton Australian Awards, among many others. Notably, she was a founding member of Albury’s art collective ‘Art n Country Skirts,’ which consisted of four local artists. Her work is showcased in collections across Australia, the USA, Japan, and England.
Since relocating to Canberra, Laszuk has displayed her artwork in two solo exhibitions and multiple group shows. She merges her technical skills in multimedia and web design with her passion for photography, mosaics, and sculpture, creating impressive art pieces that embellish her home and garden. As a dedicated member of the Artists Society of Canberra, Barbara continues to thrive in her artistic endeavors.
