Pushing boundaries and using a variety of mediums and techniques form part of my unique makeup, and I continually find myself exploring the limits of nature and beyond.
Hi, my name is Barbara Laszuk and I am a painter born in Germany. My parents migrated to Australia when I was one year old and we settled in Albury on the NSW Victorian border. I moved to Canberra in 2004 where I still reside.
I started painting in my early teens winning many awards including an award judged by Harold Abbott, head of the National Art School in Sydney.
I studied under Belgium painter the late Frank Le Compte, a traditional painter and portraitist, and Dutch painter John van Holten. I sort opportunities to participate in workshops by Melbourne pastel artist Ming Bellamy Mackay and other notable painters. I was fortunate to establish a brief friendship with Andrew Sibley, one of Australia's recognised artist gaining an insight into the mastery behind this great artist prior to this death.
My work is represented in public and private collections in Australia, USA, Japan and England.
My art career came to a sudden end when my marriage ended, compelling me to seek employment to support my children and my future. In 2004, I relocated to Canberra, where I was fortunate to obtain full-time work in biosecurity with a government department, a position I held for nearly 20 years.
In 2013, I returned to painting part-time, determined that my art would reflect my inner being and emotions, rather than painting for the market. This led to the completion of "The Twelve Layers of DNA" series, which was showcased at the Watson Art Centre exhibition in 2014.
Over the years, my artistic style has evolved, but my key interest in the human form has remained a central focus. My works often depict the rhythms and living movements of the human figure, exploring various theatrical, musical, recreational, or imaginative fantasies, evoking feelings of joy in the viewer.
Using a variety of vibrant techniques and materials, I create surreal compositions that are bold and powerful expressions of my artistic vision.

In my 'Red Earth’ artwork (featured on home page) I capture the essence of the Australian outback, and in many of these paintings I depict the image of the female form representing the giver of life; Freedom. Beauty. Unison. Whole.

You'll find me here most days working on a new painting while listing to inspiring music.
